The Real Gone

A friend of mine in Chicago is in a badass surf rock band, The Real Gone, and he asked me to do an illustration for one of their upcoming shows. I'll have to post the final poster once it's done because I'm sure it'll be fantastic, and it won't be because of my art.

I am quite certain that you would die riding this. However, it does have a place to hold your tea. Fancy.

Squilliam

I drew this fella a few years ago in my book of sketches, otherwise known as my sketchbook. There he sat until one day I got a wacom tablet. When I received said tablet, he was my first crack at painting one of my drawings on the computer. I have never been really happy with the outcome. So now that I have a better understanding of this whole pixel painting business, I have decided to George Lucas my original painting.

So, here is the redo. I may still add to him again later, but for now, this is all my day will allow...seeing as how I should be working.

Lost. FOUND!

I sketched this little....sketch on the back of some random piece of free floating paper a few years ago. Then I lost it. Then I found it! Then I lost it again. Now for the second time, I found it relaxing in a pile of school paperwork that I was supposed to turn in at some point...which as you may have guessed, I never did. Oh well.

WAE Posters

I sent my WAE poster I made a week or so ago to my friend Bret in Chicago who is a super creative graphics monster. I wanted him to turn that poster into a flyer for a show WAE is playing in August. All I said was that I wanted the poster to look vintage. He then proceeded to pump out 4 of the coolest flyers my little eyes have seen. My artwork almost degrades the flyers. "Man, look at that flyer! Except, can we get that shitty drawing out of there? It's distracting me." I know that's what you're thinking!
I was supposed to pick one flyer, but I couldn't make up my mind which one I liked better...so I picked two.

Wack Ass Poster

This is a poster I did for a band I'm currently in. They like camels and asses. I see no issue here. Well, maybe the camel part. I could do without those. They are nasty animals. I suppose you need camel imagery when your songs are about Egypt, and the desert, and karate, and tube socks. Basically, this band makes no sense at all. Maybe that's why it's so damn fun!

To the poster.

I wanted it to look like a vintage style pin-up. I, however, suck eggs when it comes to all things graphic design. When it comes to putting text on a sheet, I'm as useless as my wife. Ha! I can only say that because I know she won't read this. I'm kidding. She's not THAT useless. Anyway, I enlisted the help of a friend of mine who is an expert in graphic design. He is turning this into a retro band poster for a show WAE has in August. I will post his design when he gets it back to me.

Janet

Whilst picking up a variety of items at the local supermarket, I could hear a woman who kept yelling "JANET!...JANET!" Of course when I finally saw the woman, she was by herself. So, either she lost someone named Janet, or her own name is Janet. Either way, she is totally nuts.

Crazy lady, this one's for you.

The McFly 8000

Marty should have a hard time overloading this one..

I started this yesterday during my lunch break and finished it up during lunch today. I think I'm going to try and keep doing drawings during lunch. They force me to stop thinking about things so much and just draw dammit!

This drawing was done pretty fast, but I seem to like it WAY more than other drawings I have done that took me 10 times longer to finish.

WAKE UP!

I can't believe it's been almost 4 full months since the last time I posted a drawing. I have failed myself...

I thought about drawing this after I saw 5 guys with surf boards getting ready to hit those huge 2 foot swells that are known to batter the eastern shoreline in Massachusetts. I laughed a bit.

Last Man Standing

First, this drawing was absolute crap. Then I added a dark sky, axe and lots of blood. I think it helped.
Sadly, I painted over the original so I can't compare the final to the horror of what it looked like when I opened it. Pity.

The Beginning

So, I have recently discovered that I suck at drawing people. Hard. Actually, I've known for quite some time, I have just been avoiding the issue by drawing everything else. In order to remedy this situation, I have decided, as White Goodman would say, "to grab the bull by the horns", and draw a person a day for as long as it takes for me to be comfortable with it.
I know this sketch isn't exactly "anatomically correct" what with the exaggerated features and all, but hey, it's a start right?

Vrooooom!!!!

A friend of mine has been asking me since the beginning of High School to draw her a Ford Mustang....and I have never done it. Every time I would see her, "Kevin, where is my Mustang?" Then I saw her at my 10 year HS reunion, "Kevin, where is my Mustang?" Well, She just turned 30 and I figured she has waited long enough.
I put the pencil sketch on there because I saw another artist that follow do it, and when I saw it I said to myself, "I am totally gonna rip that off". I'm kidding, but seriously, I totally ripped it off.

Thanks to Christian Pearce for the great idea. Check out his blog. It will make your face melt.

Tree! Rock! Lake!

I drove my Jeep through the woods once, and thats exactly what I said. You know what? I hit every one of them. One might imagine that it would be quite hard to "hit" a lake. I'm here to tell you that it is alot easier than you think.

I could keep progressing this for hours but, I have the mind of a 5 year old with a very small attention span. Oh well. On to something else!!

Wranlger Concept

Really quick little scketch of a Jeep I drew while in a meeting I should have been paying attention to. Perhaps I paint!
To anyone that likes Jeeps, yes, those are squared headlights! Eat it!!

The Wall

Well, Its almost the end of the year, and it has taken me until now to finish this damn painting. I posted the pencil sketch of it in October. Thats what happens when you sit down, paint for 20 minutes, then decide you'd rather watch 'The Office'.

Fun Wall

It gives you that soft, warm feeling doesnt it? This was a quick sketch option I did for a friend that wanted a "bio-mechanical" tattoo on his back. After saying "do whatever", he later told me, "Oh, I didnt want skulls". Silly man. I like this sketch alot so I'm gonna put it in photoshop and paint it up all evil-like. Hopefully it wont take me a month and a half to post the painted version.

It's just an eye...

I was lookin through my old files I had on a drive from my laptop that fried out last spring and I found this little sketch of what appears to be an eye of some sort. When I saw it I was like, "maybe I should throw this up on my blog". The next thought in my head was "this is dumb, it's just an eye". For some reason though, I kinda like it.

One of these days I will post a drawing that is actually of something kinda interesting. I like quick doodles, but Im getting the urge to draw something epic. I've said that before though ;)

Heading South

So, during my last post I mentioned how I had this idea in my head for a scene involving a wicked steam train blasting out of a tunnel from Hell. Today I started sketching some ideas for how I am going to put this thang together. Here is a possible idea sketch for just the tunnel. I think it needs more pointy things. It just doesnt look evil enough for Hell. Ill come up with some other options.

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Oh my...

It's always the cute quiet one you have to worry about.

So I had this great idea for a killer drawing this afternoon. I wanted to paint a steam train coming out of the "Tunnel to Hell" and crossing over a burning track in the middle of a volcano. Then I thought "um, well I only have about 2 hours until my wife and son come home". So instead, I drew this little jelly bean looking thing eating a pile of man-sludge-whatsit. I still plan on painting my hell train, the idea was just a bit too ambitious for my afternoon.

The Square Root of Tomatoe = Yes

As I was going through old school crap, I came across this sketch I did in class while my professor was blabbering on and on and on about a garden and some Italian guy, I dont know I wasnt really paying attention. Anyway, I liked the sketch so I figured I would color it up. So I did.

Fishies!

This is a drawing I've been working on for the past couple days on and off. I got the idea from a video I saw on the Kuroshio Sea, the second largest aquarium in the world. I know, I know, my depiction isn't NEARLY as beautiful. I intended it to be a lot more busy and bursting with life....then I got sick of looking at it. I may finish it one day, if I'm ever bored and decide to paint some extra fish. That's the great thing about a drawing like this, I can just keep adding to it and re-posting it. Hopefully I'll stay with it and this will turn into the ever evolving piece. Piece of 'what' is yet to be determined :)

Hothead

Things have been a bit nuts lately so I havent had much of a chance to draw, but alas, tonight I found some spare time. It was in between the couch cushions. Who knew.
This drawing is kinda bunk and was done supah quick, but in the spirit of keeping this blog updated somewhat periodically, I figured, what the hell...

Bebo

Here's a reason why I love father's day, I get time to draw without having to get up and change diapers or something. As for the title, as I was drawing this, my son pointed to it and said "Bebo?" I laughed.

Overlookout

I had this sketch sitting in my sketchbook for about 2 years now, and I'm just getting around to coloring it up. In my book it looked kinda like an egg, now it looks like an egg with fun pink lights. Dont judge me!

Apparently it's the first day of earth school for this young globulous mass, and it would seem that some of his parts have minds of their own...or Tourette's syndrome.

Looks a bit...like...

I TOTALLY wasn't watching Lord of the Rings when I drew this...

Angry Tree

I started drawing a tree, then got bored, so I frankenstein'd it.

Look Out!

Wonder what he's cowering from? Big rock? Nuclear fallout? Nagging wife? "Stop playing World of Warcraft and do the dishes you lazy son of a bitch!" Wow, that was oddly specific.

Boom!

This is what happens when those lurking spectre's catch up with Pac-Man, and give him a beat down for stealing their bannans and grapes. Curse you Pac-Man, and your passion for random mixed fruits.
Quick sketch for a friends video production class.

Squidward Tennis Balls

Squidward Tentpoles

If anyone is as lame as me and watches Spongebob Squarepants, you will get the title. Anway, this is a quick sketch I did in class, come to think of it, most of these were done in class, guess I learned lots. I finally got my hands on a Wacom tablet and this was the first drawing I had that I attempted to paint in Photoshop. The result is the next post, which you would have had to scroll by to be reading this, so actually, Im telling you crap you already know.

Some Architectural Sketches

Some random architecture related sketches. I thought I lost these because I hadn't seen them in over a year, then they turned up in a pile of bills. That was a good day. I still hate bills though.

Dunce!

This daft fellow is a member of the "13 Kevin's" social club. I had planned on creating a 13 part series of drawings depicting each of the 13 slamming into some type of building material, concrete, brick, heavy timbers, glass, bullet proof tigers, anything really. It may still come to pass some day.
